Traveling to Guatemala

Learning Objectives: This activity is designed to introduce students to the various landscapes that exist within Guatemala, providing an opportunity for cultural comparisons and access to immersive landscapes.

Learning Outcome: By the end of the activity, participants will be able to interpret practices associated with regions of Guatemala.

Note: This activity is currently being treated as a single-class activity. The tool can however be used for a wide variety of things and larger . The tool itself features access to various regions of Guatemala and is voiced in both Spanish, followed by English, explanations of the landscapes.

Instructions:

  • Create a Padlet for each region, or allow students to post all their regions within a single padlet page.
  • Assign students to the various regions of Guatemala.
    • Make sure students are spread throughout all the regions to diversify locations.
    • Make sure to explore each of the regions yourself!
  • Explain to students that they will be taking a weekend trip to Guatemala and will be… (level specific task)
    • Examples
      • Discussing what they did on the trip (Preterite/imperfect)
      • Things they wish they would have known or brought with them.
      • List of places they would like to see.
      • Comparing their physical locations with those of Guatemala
  • Students will be touring their specific locations within Guatemala for 10-15 minutes.
  • Once students have finished their tour, students will spend 5-10 minutes posting to the padlet, including screenshots and photos of their destinations within Guatemala.
  • Students will then comment and interact with their peers’ posts within the padlet.
  • Return for class discussion.
