Wenhao Diao
Assistant Professor
Dr. Wenhao Diao is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of East Asian Studies. Her research deals with the sociocultural and sociolinguistic aspects of learning and teaching Mandarin Chinese. She has conducted several projects focusing on American study abroad students in China. Her work has appeared on journals such as Applied Linguistics, the Modern Language Journal, System, and so on. She has also guest co-edited a special issue themed Study Abroad in the 21st Century for the L2 Journal.
Chen Chen
Graduate Assistant
Chen Chen is a doctoral candidate in Chinese Linguistics at the Department of East Asian Studies, University of Arizona.
Her research interests are primarily in L2 acquisition of Chinese, corpus linguistics, and sociolinguistics. A substantial part of her research highlights the application of construction grammar to the L2 acquisition of Chinese. In addition, she has integrated a corpus approach to the analysis of L2 acquisition of the aspect-marker le and utterance-final particles. She has presented her work at a number of important conferences, including the American Association for Applied Linguistics, Second language Acquisition Research Forum and Chinese Language Teachers Associations.

Linus Morales
Graduate Assistant
Linus Morales is a Chinese Linguistics M.A. student from Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Receiving his B.A. in 2018, Linus studied Chinese language, culture, and history as an Asian Studies major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. His current research interests focus on the effects of the Internet on language change in China and the use of “nontraditional language” such as emoji and stickers in online communication.
Yi Wang
Graduate Assistant
Yi Wang is currently a lecturer at Emory Univrsity. She was a doctoral student in Chinese Linguistics and minoring in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching at the University of Arizona. Her major research interest focuses on the linkage of the macro ideological constructs with the micro-culture of language interaction in study abroad context. She is also interested in the process of additional language acquisition of multilingual individuals. Yi’s research interests reflect her own experience as language educator and program director, whose students are mostly multilingual and transnational individuals. Her current research projects intersect with fields of study abroad, multilingualism, language ideology, sociolinguistics, and linguistic anthropology. She has publications and conference presentations in major avenues in the field of applied linguistics.
Xin He

Xin He was a PhD student at University of Arizona.
Yilan Liu
Graduate Assistant
Yilan Liu is a PhD student in the Department of East Asian Studies. She enjoys teaching, and working with her colleagues and students very much. She has more than five years of experience teaching different levels of Chinese courses and English academic writing in U.S. universities. She is interested in teaching material development, second language acquisition of grammar, and corpus linguistics.
